Waves
Waves is a real-time 2D graphical simulation of waves. The program consists of four sections: in Pulses, students see single pulses reflect and superpose; Single Wave lets students explore amplitude and wavelength; Wave Superposition enables students to view two waves in dynamic superposition; and Longitudinal Waves allows students to see wave superposition in a longitudinal form.
Groundwater Education
Education in groundwater systems. Interactive hypertext-based program includes dozens of color screens to educate the user about the nature of groundwater and the principles of groundwater protection. Important concepts are backed up with definitions or interactive graphics. Newspaper clipping file and follow-up quiz that can be updated or modified by the user. Useful for junior high through college students, cooperative extension services, environmental professionals and the general public.
Surface Water Education System
Topics include a general overview of the importance and quantity of surface water, a detailed look at this resource for Indiana, and a discussion of how surface water can become contaminated. Hypertext and numerous photos and graphics illustrate an extensive discussion of agricultural best management practices to protect surface water resources.
Groundwater Primer
This HTML ground water program educates users about the nature of ground water and the principles of groundwater protection. It contains a detailed introduction to hydrogeology, information on numerous drinking water contaminants, and a section on what you can do to protect your ground water. You can learn about ground water protection programs in EPA and other government agencies, and find EPA contacts and hotline numbers.
Lead in Drinking Water
The dangers of lead in drinking water are explained using graphics and hypertext. The program provides basic facts about this vital topic, answering commonquestions on the effects of lead in drinking water, and presenting techniques for reducing lead exposure.
Water Efficient Landscape Planner
The Water Efficient Landscape Planner was developed to explain the advantages and principles of water efficient landscaping. The program covers the basics of landscape planning and provides guidelines and suggestions to help users select the most appropriate plants for their needs. It is intended for use by homeowners who are considering changes to residential landscaping. Also available in Spanish.
Residential Water Conservation Techniques
With more than 100 color graphic screens and animation, this program shows effective ways to save water inside and outside the house. Topics include efficient toilets, showerheads, faucets; leak detection, water efficient lawn care and gardening; car washing and pool operation. Save amazing amounts of money while protecting the environment! The expert system feature allows users to calculate how much they will save by installing water efficient devices in their homes. Wellhead Protection
Hypertext and graphics explain protection of public water supplies as presented in the Safe Drinking Water Act Amendments of 1986. General concepts reviewed include building a planning team, delineating a wellhead protection area, conducting a contaminant source inventory, managing potential contaminant sources, and planning for the future. It is intended for local/Tribal officials, water supply managers and interested groups or citizens whose community relies on ground water for its public water supply. Many of the concepts presented in this software may also be useful for protecting private wells.
Private Water Systems
Interactive hypertext format and dozens of color screens provide a complete minicourse in design and construction of private drinking water systems (wells and piping). Menu items include water quantities required, water pumps, systems controls, design considerations and piping. Equivalent to a 200-page book that takes you by the hand and teaches you! Milking Center Wastewater Treatment
The special problems posed by milkhouse wastewater are considered. A hypertext tutorial with numerous color graphics explores design of the milking facility for cleaning management, determining strength and volume of effluent flow, and devising facilities to receive, treat, and safely dispose of the wastewater. A risk assessment questionnaire evaluates the soundness of the user's situation and suggests improvements.
