Lean HealthTracker
Lean HealthTracker is a specialty database you can use to track your family's health records. It allows you to enter as separate records all individual family members, along with their gender and age. Then, as the time for regular checkups approaches, the program will notify you of the pending examinations. All suggested time intervals can be edited to suit your family situation, and completed tests and examinations can be recorded. Lean HealthTracker will also help you to manage your medical expenses for insurance reimbursements, company flexible-spending accounts, tax-deduction purposes, and so on. A Natural Beauty is a hypertext program that revisits age-old beauty secrets offering hints, recipes and healthy techniques to make you feel and look better from head to foot. You can create herbal mixtures to improve your hair, face, eyes, hands, nails and feet. The recipes use ingredients found at your natural food store, and the detailed problem and solution suggestions make this introduction into the world of natural cosmetics worthwhile.
ZuperSkeleton
The ZuperSkeleton program is a novel educational application designed to teach the names of the various bones that make up the human skeleton. The program is straightforward and easy to use. When opened, the program displays a human skeleton with 20 of the major bones and a box with a question mark. Click on one of these boxes to access a picklist of names. If you select the correct name it's automatically inserted; if incorrect the program automatically inserts the right name. ZuperSkeleton should be run in 640-by-480 mode for proper screen alignments.
Essential Oils
Essential Oils is an attractive, comprehensive guide to oils and aromatherapy. This is a DOS-based program that can run under DOS or Windows (3.1x or 95). The menu-driven interface makes the program easy to navigate, and a search option lets you locate specific information quickly. The initial menu provides an introduction to oils and lists a variety of medical conditions treatable with oils. Simply select a listed condition and click the menu button for specific oil compounds and related treatments. Additional topics covered include beauty treatments and making your own perfumes. The registered version offers information on more than 70 health conditions, 30 beauty concerns, and hundreds of suggested oil-related treatments.
NutriGenie Nutritionist 98
Examine your dietary goals with NutriGenie Nutritionist 98. This comprehensive database analyzes your diet and lets you quickly create a healthy meal plan. Using the food database, add breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack choices. A colorful, easy-to-read graph then provides a breakdown of essential nutrients, minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fat (poly-, mono-, and saturated), and calories. The data is displayed by item, meal, day, and percentage of recommended daily allowance (RDA). Color-coding lets you tell at a glance what areas are over or under the RDA. The registered version includes an 8,000-item food database and allows you to add an unlimited number of items to your personal database. The Help file provides some direction on program use but doesn't include health information. NutriGenie Nutritionist 98 is a great way to monitor your eating habits.
NaturBase
NaturBase is an extensive herb and nutritional database with information on more than 314 herbs. It's indexed according to common names, synonyms, and Genus Species. Herb information includes preparation and dosages, indications, contraindications, warnings, and side effects. NaturBase also contains information on nutritional supplements from major product lines. It can be quickly searched by product, component, or herb and is entirely cross-referenced for easy access. It isn't intended to be used as a diagnostic tool; however, it's an excellent source of information on alternative medicine.
Food Smart
Food Smart is a food analysis program that allows you to analyze individual foods, recipes, and menus. Calculate your ideal weight and body mass index, as well as your daily energy requirements for weight maintenance, loss, or gain. You can organize recipes into recipe books and produce a shopping list based on the recipes and menus you chose. Food Smart provides nutritional analysis for a wide variety of foods that you select from an easy-to-read picklist. Unfortunately, it's hard to read the nutritional analysis window because the typeface is too small. Otherwise this program -- with its toolbar and comprehensive lists -- is an excellent dietary aid.
Diabetes Control and Analysis Tracking System
This is dadatabase for tracking medication dosages, meals, and glucose. It only includes a few data fields for recording basic information, but it allows you to view the information in a table or graph format. You can view graphs in daily and weekly summaries, which are available in table format from the main window. Reporting functions provide a Daily Detail, Day Summary, Week Summary, or Daily Detail with Meals. The Help file is not very detailed, but the program should be self-explanatory for users who have been tracking the basic elements on their own. This version is limited to 50 entries until you register.
Stressmaster
StressMaster is an interactive program offering many techniques for dealing with day-to-day stress. It relies heavily on journaling, and provides a daily journal section, in addition to other writing tools that provide though-provoking questions to define goals, discover your life mission, uncover hidden talents, and much more. Spellcheck and thesaurus tools are included. Stress coping techniques will have you rating your state of mind and writing about the triggers and effective ways of overcoming them. Instant stress control techniques such as biofeedback, laughter, and breath control are explained and additional resources, such as reading materials, are suggested. Long-term stress management options cover meditation, exercise, hobbies, visualization, and proper nutrition. StressMaster will send you on an important journey of self-discovery as it teaches you skills that can improve your life.
Heart to Heart
This interactive program from the USDA and Purdueteaches the basics of personal health and diet. Using humorous illustrations, it assesses personalrisk and recommends sensible precautions againstheart disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer,stroke and other diseases.
Mercury in Medical Facilities
This HTML program teaches health care professionals (and anyone else) about the hazards of mercury as commonly used in medical care facilities, especially hospitals and clinics. Mercury can pose a significant health problem for these professionals, and also for patients and the environment in general. The program explains the impact of mercury on human health and the integrity of ecosystems, and a 'virtual hospital' allow users to see sources of mercury and their alternatives. Detailed survey and self-audit materials are provided, along with case studies from the Mayo Clinic and other locations.

NOTE: On June 24, 1998, the American Hospital Association and USEPA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to virtually eliminate mercury-containing waste from the health care industry waste stream by the year 2005.

Your Own Personality
Are you interested in gaining additional insight about yourself, or learning what type of person you are? Your Own Personality is a unique DOS based program designed to help you assess and evaluate your personality type. The program steps you through a series of 50 questions, requiring you to select from 2-3 options. The result is a single page assessment of your personality along with a full description of each of its integral parts, This report may be viewed on screen or printed. You can take the test on your computer or print a blank test form. The answers can then be entered into a computer for analysis. From self-evaluation, and career direction, to job placement, and employee evaluation, the potential uses for this program are almost endless.
Body Insight Demo
Find out about the human body. You can zoom in and out, and click on any part of the body to see what it is named. All the systems are covered - skeletal, digestive, muscular, lymphatic, endocrine, nervous, cardiovascular, reproductive, and urinary. There are also text descriptions available - in the demo, only the bones in the "Skeletal System" (first top row icon button) and any items in the "Cardiovascular System" ("heart" icon) have the detailed text descriptions.The program also includes a quiz so you can test your knowledge. And other buttons point to related topics, search, print and copy features.
The Heart - The Engine of Life (DOS)
This is an entertaining and educational introduction to the workings of the human heart. A DOS program that will run on anything from CGA to SVGA systems, it is designed for adults and children (probably best for ages 8 and up).
