CyberSky Astronomy
CyberSky displays the stars, constellations, deep sky objects, sun, moon, and planets as visible from any location on the earth at a given time. One of CyberSky's most powerful and educational features is its ability to animate the display, allowing you to see "movies" of the changing appearance of the sky over time. CyberSky was designed to be simple enough to appeal to persons who are just beginning to discover astronomy, yet provide enough information to be useful to persons who've already learned the basics. CyberSky's ease of use and animation features make it especially suitable for use in astronomy education.
Exploring the Sun
Use the science instruments from the Hubble Space Telescope to explore our solar system. New and exciting images are constantly included to guide students through the solar system's latest discoveries. This core curriculum topic is enhanced with space science math exercises.
Exploring the Universe
This program uses recent NASA Hubble discoveries to show students and teachers the most recent and amazing discoveries of the Hubble Space Telescope. Exploring the Universe is an interactive tutorial on the universe, combining math exercises with images from the Hubble Space Telescope. The software is used as a teaching aide, and is geared to enhance most space science curriculums. It is extremely easy to use, and is totally mouse driven.
The Hubble Space Telescope
This program uses images from the Hubble Space Telescope Repair Mission to visually help describe the servicing mission. This software package is meant to be a technical reference on the HST, for reference material. The software uses extremely simple instructions (switches and buttons) to guide students through five topic sections on the HST Servicing Mission. The information is for reference and topics include: astronauts, Hubble Space Telescope, Mission Preparations, Mission Outline, and Extra-Vehicular Activities.
Stella 2000 Astronomy
A new astronomical software for the PC which runs in all 32-bit flavors of Windows. Stella generates highly realistic views of the heavens in real time as observed from anywhere in the world.
My Stars
Input longitude and latitude for anywhere in the world, or see if you can find a city close to you on the list. "My Stars" will create a map of the sky unique to your position. Cool options will label stars, constellations, or planets and zoom in on objects on the map. This program makes it much easier for greenhorn stargazers to find points of interest in the night sky.
Electronic Picture Books About Space
These electronic picture books have beautiful pictures and text about space exploration and planets. They are a large download, but well worth the wait. PlanetQuest, for instance, is a 57-page book, covering Lunar Missions, Inner Planet Missions, Outer Planet Missions, Launch Vehicles and Supporting Infrastructure, and Selected Future Missions.
Home Planet - Exploring the solar system
Home Planet is a comprehensive astronomy/space/satellite-tracking package for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 and above. Home Planet is a native 32-bit Windows application which cannot be used on Windows 3.1; if you have such a system, download Home Planet Release 2, which remains available. Home Planet is in the public domain; it is free software. It is not shareware--you don't have to register it or pay anybody, and the version you download is fully functional as soon as you install it. You are free to give copies to your friends, post it on other systems, and otherwise use and distribute it in any way without permission, restriction, attribution, or compensation of any kind.
Nine Planets Graphical Tour of the Solar System
Nine Planets provides a graphical tour of all the planets of our solar system including the Sun and Asteroids. It also contains the latest astronomical data about the planets and their satellites, plus an extensive glossary.
